What
is InterNIC?
InterNIC Registration Services is located at Network Solutions, Inc., Herndon, VA, and is
funded by a co-operative agreement from the National Science Foundation to provide
registration services for the Internet community via telephone, electronic mail, and U.S.
postal mail. Registration Services works closely with domain administrators, network
co-ordinators, Internet service providers, and other various users in its registration
activities.
How do I register a new domain name?
If you wish to register the domain but not use it immediately, goto our registration center to register your domain. We will park it for you on our servers.
If you wish to start using it right away, check the name is
available and then fill out our order form, checking the "New Domain" box. We
will register it then for you. There is no additional charge for this.
How do I modify an existing domain name
to work with Quisqueya Hosting?
You need to go to Network Solutions` homepage, click "making changes" on the
left hand side, then fill out your current domain in the box (yourname.com). Submit it,
then click "Domain Registration Agreement" at the top. Enter your domain once
again, and your email address which is listed as the admin contact for the domain, and
make sure "modify" is selected. Click the submit button, and then enter the
information below in the nameserver information boxes.
You will be required to provide the following information
when registering a new domain name:

Submit the form, they will send you a copy
of it by email to the address you entered. You must then forward the entirety of the email
to hostmaster@internic.net from the email
account listed as the admin contact. This is a security measure imposed by the InterNIC to
stop other people changing your domain. We cannot do this on your behalf, for the reason
above.
How can I check if the domain I want is
available?
You can use our Domain Checking Facility.
What are valid characters for a domain
name, and how long can it be?
The only valid characters for a domain name are letters, numbers and a hyphen
"-". Other special characters like the underscore "_" or an
exclamation mark "!" are NOT permitted.
A domain name can be up to 26 characters long -- including
the 4 characters used to identify the Top Level Domain
(.NET, .COM, .ORG, or .EDU).
example.com is a valid domain name (11
characters)
http://www.example.com is not a domain
name, it is a uniform resource locator (URL) used by Web browsers to find documents and
resources.
www.example.com is not a domain name, is
the name of one computer in the example.com domain.
How long does it take InterNIC to
register a new domain?
It generally takes less than 24 hours - with some requests turned around in as little as
10 minutes. Sometimes this process can take InterNIC as long as 5 days. You always get an
auto-reply from InterNIC on whether or not the process was successful, including details
if it was not. It may take upto 48 hours for the domain to be fully active throughout the
Internet. The whois database may show your domain is not take for upto a few days after
this, because it is only updated 3 times a week.
