When I
connect via FTP, what directory should I upload my web site to?
You will automatically be put in the /home/yourusername/ftp directory which is an
alias of the www directory. You should put files in either (they are the same directory,
ftp is just an alias)
What server addresses do I use
for mail?
For incoming email to your domain, you should use mail.yourdomain.com
For outgoing (or SMTP) mail, you must use the SMTP server of your dial-up ISP. We can't
allow mail to be sent through our servers, because of spam. If you have problems with your
ISPs mail server, use relay.pair.com which has a small delay allowing it to detect and
block spam.
Why can't I view my web
pages via it's temporary IP address?
You should connect and upload files this way, but security of our system dictates
that you must use your domain to view them via the web. This is good security practise.
Where is Perl
located?
It is at /usr/local/bin/perl
Why
do I get a "not found" error when trying to run cgi scripts?
When refering to files in your cgi-bin directory from your web site, you should treat the
directory as if it is named /cgi-yourusername/
Why isn't my domain transfered yet?
It takes upto 24 hours for the InterNIC to transfer your domain. Sometimes they seem to
lose registration and transfer requests, which you should the re-send. You need to fill
out a "make changes" form at the InterNIC
to transfer an existing domain.
How
do I setup features on my account?
Goto the HelpBot. Don't worry if you get a "not
in group" error - you may need to wait until your account is fully active. |
